The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia continues to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a leading global marine tourism destination by promoting Raja Ampat as a bucket-list diving destination to the Australian market. This initiative was carried out through a Familiarization Trip (Famtrip) titled “Beyond the Barrier: Raja Ampat Awaits!”, held from 26 November to 2 December 2025 in Raja Ampat, Southwest Papua.

The program was organized in collaboration with Katembe Indonesia and aimed to introduce Raja Ampat’s extraordinary underwater biodiversity to professional divers, dive operators, and underwater media from Australia. Australia was selected as a priority market due to its strong diving culture and high interest in premium marine tourism experiences.

According to Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Raja Ampat’s globally recognized marine ecosystem makes it one of the most attractive dive destinations in the world. The region is located at the heart of the Coral Triangle and is home to hundreds of coral species and thousands of marine life forms, offering unparalleled diving experiences.

During the famtrip, participants explored some of Raja Ampat’s most iconic dive sites, including Mioskon, Friwen Wall, Batu Lima, Blue Magic, Sawandarek, Arborek, Manta Sandy, Melissa’s Garden, and Piaynemo. These sites are renowned for crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, reef sharks, manta rays, and diverse marine species that make Raja Ampat a dream destination for divers worldwide.

The famtrip involved representatives from leading Australian dive operators and underwater photography professionals, such as Dive Adventures Australia, Diveplanit Travel Pty Ltd, Pro Dive Sydney, and Nigel Marsh Photography. Their participation is expected to generate positive exposure through international dive networks, travel platforms, and visual storytelling that highlights Raja Ampat’s natural beauty.

Beyond diving activities, participants also experienced Raja Ampat’s cultural and natural attractions. Visits to Arborek Village allowed them to interact with local communities and learn about traditional Papuan culture, while a trip to Piaynemo showcased Raja Ampat’s iconic limestone karst islands—one of the most photographed landscapes in Indonesia.

The Ministry emphasized that as a premium tourism destination, Raja Ampat prioritizes sustainable and responsible tourism. Conservation efforts, environmental awareness, and community-based tourism play a vital role in preserving the marine ecosystem while ensuring long-term benefits for local communities.

This promotional effort aligns with Indonesia’s broader tourism strategy to attract high-quality international visitors and strengthen its reputation as a world-class marine tourism hub. Through strategic partnerships, global promotion, and sustainable tourism practices, Raja Ampat continues to solidify its status as one of the world’s top diving destinations and a must-visit location for Australian divers and international travelers alike.
